3rd Street Outreach Squad: 10 youth are trained extensively in STI prevention and outreach techniques. The youth in the squad make presentations about STIs at high schools around the city, pass out condoms and sexual health literature at various venues and conduct agency outreach about our medical and behavioral health services at community events.

Boys’/Girls’ Boxing Group: Combines boxing training with group counseling, offering a dynamic approach to violence prevention. The boxers discuss the violence in their lives and how boxing has changed them. They gain an appreciation for boxing as more that a sport, exercise or entertainment, but as a very challenging journey of self-exploration and self-improvement.

CARE Anger Management at Bayview YMCA: In this 10-week group, youth discuss the roots of anger and learn different ways to express their emotions.

PHAT Girls Group: A 10-week leadership group that integrates skill building and personal development activities. Topics include: roots of violence, personal strengths, self-care, power and oppression, civic engagement, community awareness, and academic and professional goal setting. This group takes place at 3rd Street and at three local high schools.

Prenatal Centering Group: Offers young parents confidential support services near their home. Children are welcome to attend. The group provides a supportive place, parent education and goal development.

Spoken Poetry: A way for youth to express themselves through spoken word poetry.

Youth Advisory Board: This group of youth leaders provides input into 3rd Street programming and organizes a Spring Youth Health Summit.

COMING THIS SUMMER!

Belly Dancing: In this group, participants learn the basic movements of the oldest dance in the world. In addition to dancing, participants spend time reflecting on body image, different forms of expression and self esteem.

Friday Movie Matinee: Young people will enjoy a movie on health-related issues such as substance abuse, violence, and self-esteem. Snacks are provided!

L.Y.F.E.: Groups focusing on social and emotional well-being, including violence, grief and other needs identified by youth.

Lunch Lounge: Youth learn how to make easy-to-cook healthy delicious meals.

Yoga for your Peace of Mind: Learn how to meditate through each day’s stresses and have peace of mind with yoga techniques.

YOUTH IN ACTION!: Combining theater and other exercises to help deal with overwhelming situations and help promote healthy living.
