Over the course of 8 to 10 weeks, the Youth Outreach Squad (YOS) covers both mental and physical health topics. The youth, who are ages 12 to 16, learn about decision-making, healthy and unhealthy relationships, hip hop in society, how to do outreach for community programs, and Centers for Disease Control Risk Behaviors (sexual behaviors that contribute to unintended pregnancy and STDs, alcohol use, drug use, tobacco use, unhealthy diets, etc.).
The goal for the program is that, by the end, each student will have a good understanding of how to stay mentally and physically healthy- and more about the resources that already exist within their community. The YOS provides a foundation for our 3LA and Health Core programs.
